एक दिन अकस्मात्
पेड़ से एक डाल टूट गई,
बसंत आने से पहले ही
उस पर पतझड़ छा गई।

न दोष हवा का था,
न दोष उस डाली का,
किसे दोष दें आखिर,
जब ज़िंदगी ही दगा कर गई।

वह डाली जो थी
अभी बिल्कुल नई,
हर्ष और उल्लास से
परिपूर्ण थी वही।

जीवन की जो आकांक्षाएँ थीं,
सब काँच की तरह बिखर गईं,
जो कल तक अपने थे,
वे सभी यहीं छूट गए।

दुःख की झील में
खुशियों के कमल कहाँ खिलते हैं,
