जाऊँ तो कहाँ जाऊँ
सीढ़ियाँ क्यों रुक गईं,
मंज़िलों तक पहुँचने की,
राह जाकर कहाँ रुक गई,
आकांक्षाओं की पूर्ति की।
पर्वत क्यों लग रहा है,
झुका-झुका सा,
रेत क्यों लग रही है,
ऊँचे पर्वतों सी।
है क्यों आज मैं थका-थका सा,
हूँ मैं आज जीवित या मृत सा,
जीवन का चित्र क्यों
लगता है विकृत सा।
ऐसा जान पड़ता है मुझे कि,
राह में मेरे,
काँटे बिछाए गए हैं फूलों के,
चलना है मुझे तीक्ष्ण धार के शूलों पे,

Why have the stairs stopped
Before reaching the destination?
Why has the path itself ended
Before fulfilling my aspirations?
Why does the mountain seem
Bent and weary today?
Why does the sand appear
As high as mighty mountains?
Why do I feel exhausted today?
Am I alive, or merely existing?
Why does the picture of life
Appear distorted before my eyes?
It seems to me that
My path has been covered
With thorns disguised as flowers.
I must walk upon sharp edges and painful spikes,
While being covered in the dust of the road.
Where shall I go?
Which direction should I choose?
How can I light a lamp amidst a storm?
