अंधेरी निशा है नदी के किनारे,
चलना नहीं है तुझे किसी के सहारे।
उठ जा तू ऐ रुकने वाले,
कि तुझे तेरी मंज़िल पुकारे।

तू वो नहीं जिसे किस्मत हरा दे,
तू वो नहीं जिसे ठोकर डरा दे।
तू वो नहीं जिसे पवन हिला दे,
तू वो नहीं जिसे लहर डुबा दे।

बस एक लौ सीने में
लगन की जला ले,
छा रहे अंधेरों को
जल्दी मिटा दे।

तू आँखों की
नमी को सुखा दे,
तू हाथों की
गर्मी को बढ़ा दे।

अरे जीते तो सभी हैं,
मगर तू
कुछ नया करके दिखा दे,
गीत अपने
दूजे के होंठों पे गुनगुना दे।

चलना नहीं है तुझे किसी के सहारे,
चलना नहीं है तुझे किसी के सहारे।

On the riverbank lies a dark night,

You must not walk depending on others.

Rise, O one who has stopped,

For your destination is calling you.

You are not the one

Whom fate can defeat.

You are not the one

Whom a stumble can frighten.

You are not the one

Whom the wind can shake.

You are not the one

Whom the waves can drown.

Just kindle within your heart

A flame of dedication and determination.

Drive away the spreading darkness,

And let your light shine brightly.

Wipe away

The tears from your eyes.

Increase

The warmth and strength of your hands.

Everyone may live,

But you—

Do something new and remarkable.

Let your songs

Be sung upon the lips of others.

You must not walk depending on others,
